Illiqua · Getting Started

New to digital assets?

This guide walks you from zero to owning your first certificate, even if you have never touched a digital asset wallet before. It takes about ten minutes.

What Is Xaman

Xaman is a mobile wallet built specifically for the XRP Ledger. It holds your keys locally on your own phone, Illiqua never sees them and never has access to your funds. You approve every action yourself, in the app, before anything happens.

Set Up Your Wallet

01
Download Xaman

Get it only from the official App Store or Google Play, via xaman.app. Confirm the publisher is XRPL Labs before installing anything.

02
Set a passcode

Open the app, create a device passcode, and accept the terms. This protects the app locally on your phone.

03
Create a new account

From the home screen, tap Create a new account. This generates a brand new wallet that only you control.

04
Write down your recovery phrase

You will see a set of secret numbers, eight rows of six digits. Write them on paper and store them offline. Never take a screenshot, never save them in the cloud. This is the only way to recover your wallet if you lose your phone.

05
Confirm the phrase

Xaman will ask you to re-enter it in order, to make sure you recorded it correctly.

Fund Your Wallet

The XRP Ledger requires every wallet to hold a small reserve, currently 1 XRP, just to exist. This is a network rule, not a fee, and it stays in your account, it is not spent. Holding your certificate itself adds a smaller reserve on top of that, about 0.2 XRP, since it counts as one item your account owns.

This reserve is not a permanent loss. If you ever close your wallet entirely, most of it comes back to you through an AccountDelete transaction, a small community tool like xrpl.services can build this for you and hand the actual signing off to Xaman itself, so your keys never leave your device. A small amount, currently 0.2 XRP, is burned to do this. One catch: the ledger will not let you delete a wallet while it still holds any NFTs, so this only applies once you no longer hold your certificate, for example after selling it.

Since a cell costs 2 XRP, plan to send around 3.5 XRP in total: roughly 1.2 XRP for the network reserve, 2 XRP for your certificate, and a small buffer for network fees.

01
Buy XRP on an exchange

Use an exchange that supports XRP, such as Coinbase, Kraken, or Uphold. Availability varies by country, and this is not an endorsement of any one platform.

02
Find your Xaman address

Open Xaman and tap Receive to see your wallet's public address.

03
Withdraw to that address

Send around 3.5 XRP from the exchange to your Xaman address. XRPL settles in seconds, your balance should appear almost immediately.

You're Ready

Once your wallet is funded, head back to Illiqua and connect Xaman to buy your first cell.
